在2019年2月17日举行的2019年度中国科学技术大学大纽约地区校友会年会上,三位董事候选人Steve Chen 陈定举(7701)校友,Tom Wu 吴志东(8101)校友和Rick Li 李可(92少)校友成功当选为校友会董事会董事,为期三年。

中国科大大纽约地区校友会成立于1995年,在2014年注册成为具有501c(3)免税资格的非营利机构,是中国科大最大的地区校友会之一,服务校友覆盖纽约州,康涅狄格州,新泽西州等地区。纽约校友会发展至今已有在册校友超过1000人,注册会员超过200人,服务覆盖逾3000人的美国东北部校友群。

Steve Chen (7701)

Steve Chen studied mathematics at USTC from 1977 to 1982. After graduation, he spent 3 years at the Institute of System Sciences of Chinese Academy in Beijing. From 1985, he studied at Cornell University, obtaining a master degree in computer sciences in 1988 and a PhD degree in applied mathematics in 1991. He has more than 20 years of experience on wall street, working as an equity quantitative strategist, with Lehman

Brothers, Credit Suisse, and recently Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He is currently a managing director and the US regional head of equity Quantitative Strategist Group in the Global Banking and Markets division, developing pricing models, trading strategies, and data analytics for the global equity business.

Steve actively took part in USTC alumni activities. He has donated several times to USTC Initiative Foundation and USTC Alumni Association of the Greater New York, sponsored and participated in the Drinks for Professionals in Finance series, and been invited as a panelist in the 2018 Summit of USTC Alumni Association of Greater New York. During the years, he has proudly hired several alumni into his team and mentored alumni within the banks.

Tom Wu (8101)

Tom Wu is a member of USTC Committee of 100. After completing his undergraduate degree in mathematics and a graduate degree in computer science at USTC, he moved to New York in 1991 to start his own business. Since 1991, his computer company has been selling to and servicing PCs for over 50,000 customers in the NY tri-state area.

In 2003, Tom ventured into the real estate development business. Over the past decade, as a co-owner and project manager, he has overseen the development of over 5 million sqft of commercial and residential spaces in China and US. From 2013-2015, he was appointed the Chairman of the New York Chinese Business Association and served as Honorary Chairman afterwards, during which he led initiatives around to promote of Chinese-American small business and politicians, education and philanthropic activity for people in need. He currently resides on Long Island with his wife and three children.

Rick Li (92SHAO)

Rick is a partner at Goldman Sachs. He is global head of FICC Micro, Commodities, and Emerging Markets strategists in Securities Division. He also co-oversees ION, the engineering team which develops risk and market making platforms within FICC.

Previously Rick served on the GS Bank Investment Committee, and managed strategist teams for a number of businesses in the firm, including Global Structured Credit, Principal Funding and Investments, FICC Latin America and GS Bank Institutional Lending Group. He joined Goldman Sachs in 2005 and was named managing director in 2010 and partner in 2018.

Rick has been very active in USTC alumni events. He served as speaker and panel moderator in a number of USTCAAGNY summit conferences, including being one of the keynote speakers in the first summit in 2014. He also sponsored several alumni reception events hosted by the association, and mentored young alumni inside and outside of his company.

Rick earned a BS in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1997 and a PhD in Physics from Yale University in 2005.
