科大女生崔景荣获最值得瞩目女性奖

传奇女生,发明治疗肺癌新药,被誉智慧与创造力的化身

 

2012年10月,中国科大803校友、辉瑞公司科学家崔景荣博士荣获Profiles in Diversity Journal 颁发的2013年度最值得瞩目女性奖(11th WomenWorthWatching Awards)。10月1日上午(美国太平洋时间9月30日晚即中秋节之夜),新创基金会致电崔景荣博士祝贺中秋佳节,并介绍“再战北马,捐赠海外交流”行动的情况。崔景荣欣然捐赠,表达她对中国科大的支持。

最值得瞩目女性奖的获奖者多为大公司高管,而崔景荣作为制药公司华裔女科学家入选显得卓尔不群。在当期杂志的采访中,崔景荣回顾了她在中美接受教育 经历。在被问及对年轻女性有何建议时,崔景荣提到:应尽快找到兴趣和热情之所在,努力完成学业—为事业成功奠定坚实的基础。而崔景荣的人生信条则是“努力 工作必将有所突破。(Hard work will make a difference.)

崔景荣1980年从西安市陕西师范大学附中考入中国科学技术大学应用化学系,1985年、1988年在中国科学技术大学分获学士与硕士学位。她随后 在俄亥俄州立大学获得博士学位并前往劳伦斯伯克利国家实验室从事博士后研究。崔景荣博士是抗癌药Xalkori 的主导发明人 (Lead Inventor)。 Xalkori 化学名Crizotinib (克里唑蒂尼), 于2011年8月26日获得美国食品药品管理局(FDA)快速批准用于具有ALK融和基因的肺癌靶向治疗。这是6年来美国FDA批准的第一个治疗肺癌的新 药,也是第一个对间变性淋巴瘤激酶进行靶向治疗的药品。2011年12月5日,美国知识产权所有者协会在华盛顿DC进行颁奖晚宴,华裔女科学家崔景荣领衔 的辉瑞公司治疗肺癌新药 Xalkori (crizotinib)团队荣膺第38届年度国家发明大奖( Annual National Inventors of the Year)。

20多年前,崔景荣离开中国科大,怀揣27美元赴美留学。她不曾想象多年后获得著名的“国家发明奖”。

中国科大自建校以来,培育了大批智慧与美丽的杰出女性。然而崔景荣还是爱的化身。她或许是中国科大中拯救生命最多的女生之一——一篇知名肺癌生存者 博客报道“生命和呼吸:在肺癌中生存”的则以感性的语调强烈称赞这位杰出的科大女生——崔景荣是“智慧、勤奋、谦虚(!)和创造力的化身”。崔景荣在 XALKORI正式投放市场的典礼中,见到了11位病人代表及他们的家属。因为崔景荣等发明设计的XALKORI,这些曾经肺癌晚期患者得以基本恢复正 常。下图是崔景荣博士和9位被XALKORI救治恢复病人在一起。 崔景荣发明设计的药XALKORI,已挽救许多癌症患者的生命,还将挽救更多的人的生命。

2011年12月初,中国科大校友新创基金会发布崔景荣发布抗肺癌新药的新闻,新华社随即刊发通稿,香港《文汇报》等几十家平媒网媒予以报道。崔景 荣以这种方式为母校赢得声誉。2012年,美国《华尔街日报》以《新药研发革新》为题报道了崔景荣的成就。新创基金会2011年12月发布崔景荣发明肺癌 新药的新闻发布之后数日,一位北京校友致电告知,他希望通过新创基金会联系崔景荣博士致谢,因为其母亲曾患肺癌,在解放军304医院接受克里唑蒂尼临床诊 疗之后80高龄的母亲生活已于常人无异。直到看到基金会的新闻,他才知道,救命药发明人是科大校友。12月30日,这位校友在北京304医院见到崔景荣博 士,难掩激动。

崔景荣博士对中国科大充满深情。2011年12月5日的颁奖典礼中,崔景荣发表答谢演讲,她回顾了设计新药Xalkori的艰难历程。崔景荣对主要 由政策制定者、大公司、法律专家们组成的大批听众表示“我特别感谢中国科学技术大学的本科教育”。她多次与中国科大教授联系,对相关学科建设提出建议。 2010年6月27日,中国科大代表团访美,崔景荣和多位UCSD教授邀请中国科大代表团进行早餐会。

About USTC

The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) is under the jurisdiction of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). As a key university of the nation, it is noted for its advanced science and high technology programs, unique management studies and well-tailored disciplines in the humanities.

USTC was established in Beijing in September 1958, with Guo Moruo as its first president. Its establishment was regarded as a major event in China’s history of education and science. Since its very beginning, CAS has adopted a policy of “running the university with resources of the entire CAS and integrating each of its departments with relevant CAS research institutes.” Led by a group of most renowned Chinese scientists of the time—Yan Jici, Hua Luogeng, Qian Xuesen, Zhao Zhongyao, Guo Yonghuai, Zhao Jiuzhang and Bei Shizhang, USTC set up a series of programs that creatively encompassed the frontiers of science and new technologies to meet the needs of the nation for developing science and technology. The University emphasized the teaching of fundamental courses and provided its students with a wide range of high-level training that incorporated newly-emerging as well as interdisciplinary fields of study. In its second year, USTC quickly rose to the status of a national key university. It has been one of the first institutions included in China’s “985 Program” and “Project 211″, and the only university participating in the National Program for Knowledge Innovation. Over the years, USTC has adhered to its motto of “being both politically sound and professionally competent, and integrating theory with practice” and promoted a style of “living for innovations.” Its high-quality educational work, characterized by ground-breaking studies, combination of teaching and research and integration of theory with practice, has produced a large number of highly accomplished people and many significant, internationally-recognized, original research results.

USTC now has eight national key programs of first-level disciplines, four national key programs of second-level disciplines, two programs with major national support, and 19 programs with major provincial and ministerial support. It has 33 national-level and CAS/provincial/ ministerial-level laboratories and research centers, including the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, the Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale, the National Key Laboratory of Fire Science, the National High Performance Computing Center at Hefei, and the National Geophysical Observatory at Mencheng. USTC has 1,162 full-time teachers and 286 researchers, among whom 33 are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 9 academicians of the Third World Academy of Sciences, 342 doctoral advisors, 450 professors and 646 associate professors. Of its 15,500 plus students, over 1,900 are doctoral students, over 6,200 are master’s students, and more than 7,400 are undergraduate students.

Over the past fifty years, USTC has faithfully kept to its high-quality educational mission. By the end of 2008, the University has graduated some 50,000 students, 42 of whom have eventually become CAS or CAE academicians. On average, every 1,000 of its college graduates would see over 700 continue to pursue and receive a master’s or doctor’s degree and one elected CAS or CAE academician, which ranks among the top few of Chinese universities. In addition, several thousand USTC graduates have joined the armed forces, with more than twenty of them becoming generals and most playing an important role in China’s national defense.
